Day-to-Day Life 2.0
2018 has been a bit of blur so far! We've been busy with a constant stream of visitors and have lots to share with you from the last two months!
To kick of 2018, we went to Mombasa, a city on the East coast of Kenya, for the CARE for AIDS annual staff retreat. All 138 CFA staff were there for several days of fun, encouragement and training. We also had a group from the US join us for retreat and stay afterwards for an Impact Trip in Mombasa.
When we got back to Nairobi from Mombasa, we had another Impact Trip arrive to stay with us in Nairobi! This team was the first "family trip" that we've done and it was so fun to have some kids with us for a week.
The client in the center of the photo above on the left is Ruth. While our team was visiting with her in her home, she made the decision to give her life to Christ!!! What a joyous day celebrating a new sister in Christ!
The photo above is of Rosemary, another client that this Impact Team met during home visits. Rosemary started our program as a bedridden client but thanks to the CFA medical endowment fund has been able to receive care over the last few months that has enabled her regain some strength and get medication for a debilitating skin disease. Her faith in the Lord has carried her through this tough season and she said that through it all she knows God is still good! Amen!
After our two Impact Teams left, we had a week to rest and catch up on work. At the end of January our good friend from Greenville, Alex Lea, came to visit us! Lex is in his 4th year of medical school in Greenville and came to East Africa to spend a month in Kenya and another in Uganda working at hospitals. Before he left Kenya, we got to spend a few days with him in Nairobi. It was so life-giving to us to have a good friend here just to hang out and spend time with us! Lex came to work with us for a few days and got to see a little bit of what we're doing here and what daily life in Nairobi is like. And of course, we had to introduce him to our giraffe friends!
A few days after Lex left for Uganda, Casey's parents, David & Julie, arrived to stay with us for a couple weeks! While they were here, we got to show them a lot of our "normal" day-to-day life, and then also got to show them some of our favorite parts of this beautiful country!
Julie took that photo on the right & I just love it! Go mom!!
We are incredibly grateful that the Lord has given us some incredible new friends, many of whom go to the church we've been attending for the last couple months called One Tribe. This fun photo booth (made with the door of a public transport minibus called a matatu) was set up after church a few weeks ago! We love Nairobi!
If you get our newsletter, you know that had to temporarily leave East Africa this week. We have wonderful friends, the McWhites and the Boyers, who are all missionaries in Ireland! They graciously allowed us to come stay with them for the week. It's absolutely beautiful and we are so encouraged by the work they're doing here. Back in Greenville, we were in small group with the McWhites and the Boyers at The Church at Cherrydale and it's been a fun reunion for us all to be together again here in Ireland! It's also quite a change from our typical sunny and 75 degree weather in Kenya. As I'm writing this from the McWhite's dining room table, it's currently snowing like crazy outside!
Last, but definitely not least, we celebrated Aaron's birthday this past Sunday while here in Ireland! The photo below on the left is from our CFA office birthday party a few weeks back! Happy 27th Birthday, A!
